
New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a mishap in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The multi-vehicle crash near Drummondganj killed 11 people after a truck hit a car, Bolero, and trailer, causing fire in an SUV on Wednesday evening around 8:20 p.m.
Nine occupants of the SUV were burnt alive after the collision, the police said.
Extending condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident, the Prime Minister also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Modi announced an ex-gratia from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF) of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
The Prime Minister on social media platform X said: “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the mishap in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the quick recovery of the injured.”
Taking to his official X account, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “The loss of lives in the road accident in Mirzapur district is extremely tragic and heart-rending. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Instructions have been issued to the concerned officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed sorrow over the fatal road accident.
“The news of the deaths of several people in the road accident that occurred in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, is extremely heart-wrenching. I express my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this accident and pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” he said in a message on X.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “The news of the deaths of several people in a road accident in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh is extremely heart-rending. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
