Rewa, Aug 21 (IANS) Three consecutive days of heavy rain have disrupted normal life across Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, prompting the administration to assess the damage, intensify relief operations and shift more than 4,000 affected people to relief camps.
On Friday, District Collector Narendra Suryavanshi and Superintendent of Police Kurukaran Singh, along with revenue officials, inspected several affected areas of Teonthar tehsil and reviewed the situation on the ground.
During the inspection, officials assessed waterlogging and took stock of rescue, relief, and other arrangements for affected residents.
The district administration said the impact of the heavy rain was particularly severe in Teonthar tehsil, where more than 300 villages were affected by waterlogging.
Local MLA Siddharth Tiwari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also joined the inspection and met with the Collector and SP.
More than 4,000 people affected across Rewa district by the rain and waterlogging have so far been shifted to relief camps, where arrangements have been made for food, clean drinking water and medical facilities.
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla also inspected various relief camps, interacted with displaced residents and reviewed the arrangements. He directed officials to ensure immediate drainage of water from affected neighbourhoods and accelerate rescue and relief operations.
He asked the administration to maintain adequate supplies of food and clean drinking water, and ensure medical facilities at relief camps. Administrative teams have been instructed to remain vigilant and respond promptly to any emergency.
In an unfortunate incident, a 78-year-old farmer, Buddhasen Mishra, died after falling into deep water in Bans Gram Panchayat under Mangawan tehsil on Friday. According to police, Mishra had left his house to search for his buffalo, which had gone out to graze earlier in the morning. While passing near a well, he reportedly slipped due to the rain and fell into deep water.
Along with inspections and setting up relief camps in various parts of the district, the administration has set up a round-the-clock control room to handle rain-related emergencies. Residents can contact it at 07662-255143.
