Mumbai, Aug 31 (IANS) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) core committee, under the leadership of National President and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, met on Monday to discuss a high‑decibel organisational roadmap.
The meeting laid out a comprehensive strategy to mobilise cadres down to the booth level ahead of the upcoming elections to 22 Zilla Parishads (ZPs) and the distant 2029 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly polls.
Focusing on grass‑roots expansion and voter retention, the party leadership resolved to intensify party‑government coordination while maximising voter enrolment during the ongoing Summary Revision (SIR) process.
Addressing reporters post‑meeting, NCP State Unit Chief Sunil Tatkare announced that a dedicated panel chaired by former minister Dilip Walse Patil has been constituted to oversee preparations for the 22 Zilla Parishad polls. The local body elections remain contingent on the Supreme Court’s pending order regarding OBC reservations.
A senior party functionary revealed that Walse Patil’s committee will conduct a thorough ground‑level assessment across the 22 local bodies. The objective is to evaluate the party’s readiness to either contest independently or secure a prominent share of seats within the Mahayuti alliance. To capitalise on ongoing voter list updates, the core committee designated a separate task force headed by former minister Nawab Malik to leverage the SIR timeline.
Party insiders emphasised consensus on ensuring that NCP’s voter base is systematically registered across electoral roll modifications. Alongside the SIR push, the leadership called for rigorous implementation of the ‘My Booth, My Village’ initiative. The campaign aims to consolidate the party’s voter base at the local level and secure strongholds before upcoming constituency delimitation and boundary realignments take effect.
To align party strategy across cadres, Tatkare announced that a day‑long brainstorming session, Chintan Shivir, will take place on September 27 in Nashik. The state‑level conclave will formulate the long‑term consolidation framework for the party.
The core committee underscored a clear mandate to scale up the party’s presence from its present strength of 1 Member of Parliament and 41 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the 2029 general and state elections.
In an official media release, the party said senior leaders and members of the core committee attended the meeting. Detailed discussions were held on strengthening the organisation, its future course, and various political and organisational matters. Under Sunetra Ajit Pawar’s leadership, senior leaders expressed their resolve to strengthen the party’s organisational network further and consolidate its presence across Maharashtra.
Monday’s meeting follows an earlier core committee session held on August 22, which reviewed organisational reconstruction proposals suggested by poll strategist Prashant Kishor. The recent push comes amidst minor internal administrative queries, as the leadership has yet to formally respond to July and August communications sent by former national secretary Sacchidanand Singh regarding procedural aspects of Sunetra Pawar’s election as National President on February 26. Despite this, the leadership remains unified in expanding its ground force ahead of the upcoming local body battles.
