Bengaluru, Aug 17 (IANS) The Congress on Monday lodged a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC N. Ravikumar, alleging that he disrespected the National Flag and National Anthem during the Independence Day celebrations held at the BJP office premises in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, on August 15.
The complaint, filed by Congress leader Kushal Haruvegowda, raised objections to Ravikumar’s conduct during the flag‑hoisting ceremony and the playing of the National Anthem. It alleged that he failed to show the required respect to the National Flag and the National Anthem.
According to the complaint, a video of the incident allegedly shows Ravikumar standing in a posture resembling the RSS‑style ‘Dhwaj Pranam’. At the same time, the National Flag was being hoisted, and the National Anthem was played.
The complainant urged the police to examine the video footage and establish the facts surrounding the incident.
He also sought a fair and impartial investigation to determine whether any law was violated.
The complaint further stated that the National Flag does not belong to any political party or organisation but is a symbol of the country’s honour, unity, and sovereignty.
Haruvegowda urged the authorities to take appropriate action under the applicable laws if any violation is established, stressing that the law should be equal for everyone, including those holding political positions.
The complaint also emphasised that protecting the dignity of the National Flag and other national symbols is every citizen’s responsibility.
The BJP Yuva Morcha filed a police complaint in Bengaluru on Sunday against senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi over the Vande Mataram national song row.
The complaint said video footage uploaded on YouTube allegedly showed Sonia “disrespecting Vande Mataram and asking that its rendition (in full) be stopped”.
The incident allegedly occurred during the flag‑hoisting ceremony on Independence Day on August 15 at the Congress party headquarters in Delhi.
