Karnataka ministers get key portfolios after marathon talks; six slots remain undecided

Bengaluru: After several rounds of discussions, portfolios have been allocated to 13 of the 19 newly inducted ministers in the Karnataka cabinet led by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The final list has reportedly been sent to Raj Bhavan for approval, with an official notification expected soon.

Under the latest allocation, N. Chaluvarayaswamy has been given Agriculture, Rizwan Arshad Food and Civil Supplies, and K.H. Muniyappa Social Welfare. Santosh Lad will handle Labour, Basantappa Fisheries and Madhu Bangarappa Primary and Secondary Education.

Sharanabasappa Darshanapur has been allotted Higher Education, while B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan gets Housing and Lakshman Savadi Cooperation. Ajay Singh will handle Forest, S.S. Mallikarjuna Mines and Science, and Balakrishna has been assigned Minor Irrigation.

The allocation for the remaining six ministers is yet to be finalised. Sources said discussions are continuing over the distribution of the remaining departments.

The portfolio exercise comes after multiple rounds of negotiations within the ruling Congress. The final list is now awaiting formal approval from Raj Bhavan before the new assignments are officially notified.
