Bengaluru, July 8 (IANS) Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), terming its resolution demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation over the alleged theft of cash offerings at the Ayodhya Ram Temple as “absurd, irresponsible and laughable.”
In a statement, Vijayendra said the Congress should instead demand the resignation of Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi from the Rajya Sabha and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha over the National Herald case.
“The KPCC’s resolution demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation over the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation issue is the height of irresponsibility and is utterly ridiculous. Instead, the Congress should be demanding the resignation of its leader Sonia Gandhi, who is out on bail in the National Herald case involving properties worth around Rs 5,000 crore built through the sacrifices and hard work of freedom fighters. It should also seek the resignation of Rahul Gandhi, who holds the constitutional post of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha,” Vijayendra alleged.
He further accused the Congress government in Karnataka of attempting to cover up alleged scams, including the MUDA and Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation cases.
“Can Rahul Gandhi also be held accountable for the notorious cases involving the alleged looting of the state treasury and the MUDA site allotment scam in Karnataka?” he asked.
Vijayendra pointed out that the Ayodhya Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust is an independent body and said the Uttar Pradesh government acted promptly after allegations of theft of temple donations surfaced.
“The moment the alleged donation theft came to light, the Uttar Pradesh government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath treated the matter seriously, ordered an investigation and ensured that the accused were arrested. A transparent and impartial investigation is currently underway. Had there been any intention to suppress the matter, the state government would not have initiated an investigation immediately after the allegations surfaced,” he said.
In contrast, he alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka had attempted to shield corruption allegations against itself.
“You have tried to bury the scams that have brought disgrace to Karnataka instead of allowing a fair investigation. Your party’s high command has shamelessly defended these actions. The Congress, which has repeatedly justified nepotism, corruption and anti-national activities, has been reduced to near political irrelevance in the country. Yet, it appears to have learnt no lessons,” he said.
Vijayendra also accused the Congress of adopting double standards with regard to central investigative agencies.
“It is surprising that the Congress has suddenly expressed immense faith in the CBI in the Ayodhya matter. When the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigated the MUDA and Valmiki Corporation cases in Karnataka, Congress leaders accused these agencies of being biased and politically motivated. Today, the same party is placing its trust in the CBI. This exposes the Congress’ double standards,” he alleged.
“If the Congress truly has faith in the CBI, why is it still opposing a CBI probe into the MUDA case before the courts?” he questioned.
Concluding his statement, Vijayendra said the Congress had lost the moral authority to target others.
“The Congress has no moral standing to point fingers at anyone. It is ignoring its own failures while trying to find fault with others. No matter how much the Congress shouts or indulges in misinformation campaigns, it cannot diminish the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who continues to enjoy immense public support,” he said.
