In a national first, DMRC achieves ISO 55001:2024 certification for asset management on Mumbai line

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) 2024 certification for its Asset Management System for Mumbai Metro Line-3, becoming the first metro organisation in India to receive certification under the international standard for asset management, an official said on Sunday.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in DMRC’s journey from conventional maintenance practices towards strategic, risk-based and lifecycle-oriented asset management, Anuj Dayal, DMRC’s Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications, said.

It reflects a shift from simply maintaining assets to managing their performance, risk, cost and long-term value in alignment with organisational objectives.

ISO 55001:2024 provides a globally recognised framework for managing assets across their entire lifecycle.

Its implementation enables organisations to take more informed decisions by balancing asset performance, operational risk and lifecycle costs, thereby enhancing reliability, resource efficiency and long-term sustainability, Dayal added.

The DMRC achieved this certification in record time through a comprehensive strengthening of its asset management framework. This included enhancing the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), aligning asset management objectives with organisational priorities, strengthening risk assessment and lifecycle controls, and undertaking extensive training and capacity building of personnel.

The system is continuously monitored through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), audits and management reviews.

The DMRC is responsible for the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the 33.5-km Mumbai Metro Line-3 corridor, connecting Colaba, Bandra and Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ).

Its responsibilities encompass the safe, reliable and efficient management of a wide range of critical assets, including rolling stock, traction, signalling, telecommunications, stations, lifts, escalators, track and civil infrastructure, the statement said.

The ISO 55001:2024 certification further strengthens DMRC’s commitment to safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability by integrating these objectives into a globally benchmarked asset management system.

This achievement establishes a new benchmark for structured, scientific and lifecycle-based asset management in India’s urban rail sector.

It also demonstrates DMRC’s capability to provide world-class metro O&M and asset management expertise beyond Delhi-NCR and contribute to the development of globally aligned practices across India’s rapidly expanding urban rail network, the statement added.
