Dispose of crimes against women within 60 days, says Rajasthan Chief Secretary

Jaipur, April 1 (IANS) Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas on Wednesday directed officials to ensure that cases of crimes against women are disposed of within 60 days, with the status of every FIR to be updated within two months.

He also called for the prompt organisation of MedLEPR (Medico-Legal Examination and Post-Mortem Report) training, expedited onboarding of the ‘Nyay Shruti’ system, regular meetings of public prosecutors at the district level, and continuous monitoring of civil rights cases.

Emphasising the need for faster investigations, Srinivas said technology-driven policing must be strengthened through extensive use of Zero FIRs, e-FIRs, and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).

The Chief Secretary was reviewing the implementation of new criminal laws and Smart Policing initiatives during a meeting held at the Government Secretariat. He directed officials to maximise the use of citizen-centric services such as SMS alerts, online case tracking, and e-summons.

He also stressed regular training for investigating officers in handling electronic evidence and improving coordination among all pillars of the criminal justice system — police, prisons, prosecution, forensics, and the judiciary. He further instructed departments to enhance accessibility and speed in hearings by increasing the use of video conferencing facilities in courts and prisons.

Highlighting the importance of coordination, Srinivas said departments must ensure optimal use of technological platforms to improve the quality, transparency, and timeliness of investigations. He also directed that forensic investigations be prioritised in serious cases and that forensic teams be made available promptly at crime scenes.

During the meeting, SCRB IG Ajay Pal Lamba noted that the integration of forensic tools, video conferencing, and digital systems has led to improved case disposal rates. He added that faster registration, investigation, and resolution of cases are helping accelerate the overall judicial process.

Senior officials from the Medical and Health, Finance, Home, and IT departments attended the meeting, along with ACS (Home) Bhaskar Atmaram Sawant, DGP Rajiv Kumar Sharma, DG Prisons Ashok Kumar Rathore, Principal Secretary (Law) Raghavendra Kachhwal, and Director of Prosecution Tirupati Kumar Gupta.
