Delhi Metro Police crack theft case; woman arrested with stolen diamond ring

New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) The Delhi Metro Police cracked a theft case involving a stolen gold and diamond ring at the Chandni Chowk Metro Station and arrested a 25-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Monday.

According to the police, the case was registered under FIR No. 80037898/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kashmiri Gate Metro Police Station.

The breakthrough was achieved jointly by the Special Staff of Metro Police and the team of PS Kashmiri Gate Metro under the supervision of senior officers and on the directions of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro), B. Bharat Reddy.

Police said the accused had initially managed to evade detection by concealing her identity through the use of multiple mobile numbers, misleading residential addresses, and other deceptive methods.

“The case posed a major challenge as no concrete clue regarding the identity or whereabouts of the accused person was available,” the police said in a statement.

Investigators then launched an extensive probe involving detailed scrutiny of CCTV footage from multiple locations and continuous technical surveillance. Local Intelligence was also developed with the help of secret informers and field enquiries.

After sustained efforts, the accused woman was identified as a resident of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh who was staying in Vaishali.

Acting on the inputs, the Special Staff Metro team along with the Investigating Officer and local police personnel reached Vaishali and conducted intensive searches for nearly four to five hours despite not having the exact location of the suspect.

Police teams questioned several residents and shopkeepers during the operation before finally tracing the accused through a secret tip-off.

An immediate raid was conducted and the accused woman was apprehended successfully. The stolen gold and diamond ring was also recovered from her possession.

During verification, police found that the accused had no previous criminal record.

Delhi Metro Police said the successful detection of the case reflected the coordinated teamwork, technical expertise and professional investigation carried out by the Special Staff Metro and Kashmiri Gate Metro Police Station staff.

Police officials said the operation reinforced public confidence in the Metro Police’s ability to ensure passenger safety and promptly solve theft cases within the Metro network.
