Delhi BJP questions LoP Atishi’s absence from Assembly proceedings

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) The Delhi BJP hit out at Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Atishi for not attending the ongoing session, claiming that her absence reflects the Aam Aadmi Party’s lack of seriousness towards constitutional institutions and democratic processes.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that Atishi and former Minister Gopal Rai were also absent during the Assembly’s Budget Session, and their continued absence once again demonstrates the AAP’s lack of seriousness regarding the issues concerning the city.

He said that it is unfortunate that Atishi, who enjoys the privileges provided through the taxpayers’ money of Delhi, is occupied with welcoming AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal in Goa, while Gopal Rai has spent months campaigning in Gujarat.

Kapoor added that the BJP has consistently maintained that the AAP is an anarchic party whose leaders only know how to make baseless allegations through press conferences and create disruptions in the Assembly.

He said that when the party was in power, it did not believe in constructive debate, and even now, while in the Opposition, it has little interest in meaningful discussions on public issues because it mostly raises false and unsubstantiated matters that cannot withstand debate on the floor of the House.

Kapoor’s views were also echoed by his party colleague and Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who appealed to the AAP MLAs to move away from political theatrics, baseless allegations and disruptive politics, and instead engage in meaningful debate in the Assembly on issues of public interest.

He said that the Legislative Assembly is the highest forum of democracy, where matters concerning the aspirations of the people, development, and accountability should be discussed in a serious and constructive manner.

Sirsa said that the Opposition has been completely rattled since the implementation of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.

He stated that this historic scheme, launched to promote the dignity and economic empowerment of women, has received overwhelming public support, leaving the Opposition with no positive political issue to raise.

He alleged that in an attempt to divert public attention, the AAP has resorted to false allegations, misleading propaganda, and unnecessary disruptions both inside and outside the Assembly.
