Bhopal, April 20 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will visit Tamil Nadu on April 21 for a one-day election campaign, marking his first visit to the state for the ongoing Assembly election as polling approaches on April 23.
The visit comes at a decisive stage in the electoral process, with campaigning set to conclude on the evening of April 21, followed by the mandatory silence period ahead of voting.
Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23 across all 234 Assembly constituencies, with counting of votes held on May 4.
During his campaign tour, the Chief Minister will address public meetings in support of Bharatiya Janata Party candidates and engage with party workers to boost mobilisation in key constituencies.
Party leaders have described the visit as part of a last-phase push to strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party’s outreach in select pockets of the state.
The electoral contest in Tamil Nadu is primarily a multi-cornered battle. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance, headed by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, is seeking to retain power.
It faces a challenge from the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam combine, which is supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Other political forces, including Naam Tamilar Katchi and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, are also in the fray, making the electoral contest more complex and competitive.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, in particular, has intensified its campaign efforts in the final phase, deploying senior leaders to multiple states. Yadav’s Tamil Nadu visit is seen as part of this strategy to consolidate support and boost the party’s visibility ahead of polling.
Earlier, Yadav had also participated in election campaigns in West Bengal, where he addressed public rallies in Kharagpur and Kamarhati.
During those meetings, he targeted the ruling All India Trinamool Congress and its Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, over issues of governance and law and order, while urging voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party’s development agenda.
With multiple states heading into elections, Yadav’s campaign engagements reflect the Bharatiya Janata Party’s broader national strategy of leveraging senior leadership to strengthen organisational presence and voter outreach across key electoral battlegrounds.
