After success at Kannada box office, ‘Kantara’ set for Hindi release

Bengaluru, Oct 9 (IANS) After garnering rave reviews and box office success in the Kannada market with 'Kantara', the makers are eyeing the Hindi market.

The production house Hombale films took to their twitter handle today to announce the release of the movie's trailer in Hindi version. The movie will be released in Hindi on October 14.

Speaking on the Hindi release of 'Kantara', the producer Vijay Kiragandur said: "Kantara is in a different genre from KGF. We wanted the world to see our distinct cultural identity that we are proud of. The movie spells of sacred customs and traditions, hidden treasures and generational secrets with the backdrop of uniquely rugged, charming landscapes of Coastal Karnataka. The distinct storyline of the movie is surely going to intrigue the fans nationally as well as globally. We have plans to release Kantara in different languages too in the coming week."

The original Kannada version was released on September 30 and has made a mark at the box office as well as being critically acclaimed.

Set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara is a visual grandeur that brings alive the traditional culture of Kambala and Bhoota Kola artform to the fore. The soul of the story is on human and nature conflict which is deeply rooted in the coastal culture and folklore of Karnataka.

The movie will be releasing onn 800 plus screens across India.

Directed and led by Rishab Shetty, the movie also stars Sapthami Gowda in the lead. It also stars Kishore, and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles. Kantara has been produced by Hombale Films who made the 'KGF' series.

Ayushmann’s ‘Doctor G’ gets ‘A’ certification, makers happy as ‘no cuts suggested’

Mumbai, Oct 9 (IANS) Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer 'Doctor G' has received an 'A' certificate from the censor board and the filmmakers are happy that no cuts were suggested to the movie.

Doctor G shows Ayushmann portraying the role of a Gynaecologist in a medical campus comedy-drama. It is a journey of an aspiring orthopedic surgeon who instead gets into studying gynecology. Being the only male in a women-dominated department, there begins his humorous struggle to fit in.

Amrita Pandey, CEO Junglee Pictures said: "The movie is bold, high on entertainment, yet subtly breaks stereotypes as one might expect from a true Ayushmann Khurrana film. Despite not having any explicit content, it is a movie for young adults who are exposed to bold yet sensitive and hilarious content and can of course watch it with their families."

"We are happy there were no cuts suggested and we are able to present the film as is in the theatres, also being under 2 hours, Doctor G will have a refreshing and engaging appeal"

The film's director Anubhuti Kashyap shared that midst all the action, thriller and fantasy led movies that have released recently, 'Doctor G' is a fun comedy-drama that is clutter breaking and will be a refreshing watch for the audience.

"The trailer has been received so well and that is just a glimpse of the comedy and entertainment that's in store during the film. I am glad the audience will get to watch the film in its entirety that will stay with them for a long time."

Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and written by Sumit Saxena, Saurabh Bharat, Vishal Wagh and Anubhuti Kashyap, Doctor G is set to release in theatres on October 14.

‘KGF’ and ‘Kantara’ makers announce next ‘Dhoomam’

Bengaluru, Oct 9 (IANS) After the resounding success of their new release 'Kantara', the makers of 'KGF', Hombale Films are getting ready to produce their next project, 'Dhoomam' starring Fahadh Faasil and National Award winner Aparna Balamurali.

The production house Hombale Films took to their twitter handle to share the muhurat shots of their new movie.

Speaking at the muhurat, the producer Vijay Kiragandur said: "We are delighted with our association with Fahadh and Aparna. Dhoomam has a unique storyline which is different from all the genres of traditional cinema.

Director Pawan Kumar has worked on the script for several months and we believe this is going to cause frenzy among the fans. We are very excited for this upcoming movie with a solid cast and crew by our side'.

'Dhoomam', is to be directed by Pawan Kumar who is known for his unique storytelling and for helming acclaimed films like 'Lucia' and 'U Turn'.

'Dhoomam', a thriller, will be released in 4 languages including Malyalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.

The film marks the second announcement from Hombale Films into the Malayalam film industry, after the grand announcement of 'Tyson' earlier.

Apart from Fahadh and Aparna, the movie stars Achyut Kumar, Joy Mathew, Dev Mohan, Anu Mohan, Nandhu in the pivotal roles. The music for the movie will be given by Poornachandra Tejaswi and cinematography will be done by celebrated cinematographer Preetha Jayaram. National award winners Anees Nadodi (Production Design) and Poornima Ramaswamy (Costume Design) have also been roped in for the interesting project.

Last month, the filmmakers had released an intense poster, revealing the title of the movie. It was captioned: "What you sow, so shall you reap".

According to the makers, the film promises to be a racy fast paced thriller with an intensive plot. The movie is set for a summer release and will be extensively shot in Karnataka and Kerala.

The production house has already produced 2 cult classics this year with 'KGF Chapter 2' and their latest release 'Kantara'.

Their other mega project 'Salaar', starring Prabhas is due for a release in September 2023.

Ajay Devgn: Growing up on film sets has made me the artiste I’m today

Mumbai, Oct 8 (IANS) From being an actor, director to producer, Ajay Devgn is known for donning multiple hats. In 2008, he directed and produced 'U Me Aur Hum', he also produced and acted in 'Raju Chacha' and in 2022 he directed 'Runway 34' which is inspired from an incident of a flight from Doha to Kochi in 2015.

Ajay shared that having grown up on film sets (his father Veeru is a renowned action director) has armed him up with various skills of filmmaking.

The actor said: "I have grown up on film sets, from assisting to handling the camera, from editing to taking up small tasks on the sets. These experiences have contributed to the kind of artiste I have transformed into today. As an actor, I've always liked the challenges."

'Runway 34' is a riveting story of aviation clubbed with courtroom drama. Along with Ajay, it features Rakul Preet Singh and Amitabh Bachchan.

Ajay further shared what he liked about the film: "Exploring something new interests me a lot. This genre, aviation drama, is fairly new in the country and it's a genre that I really enjoy. The script has a lot of drama, thrill, emotion and suspense. In order for audiences to experience the situations with us, everything had to feel real, the aircraft, the cast, the environment."

"I think reality will grip the audience the minute they set eyes on their screens", he added.

Briefing about her character, Rakul added: "My character plays the first officer in the film, who is stuck in a conflict which adds to the drama of the film. This marks a milestone in my career as it was a unique role and very challenging at the same time."

"Through the whole process Ajay Devgn truly inspired me because of the way he juggled his roles as an actor, director and producer on the set. And top of all, collaborating with Amitabh Bachchan was like a dream come true. Being on the same set as him really allowed me to learn so much," concluded Rakul sharing how it was to share screen with Big B and Ajay.

'Runway 34' will have its world television premiere on Zee Cinema on Saturday, 8 p.m. IST.

‘Bigg Boss 16’: Salman takes Manya to task for insulting Sreejita

'Mumbai, Oct 8 (IANS) As superstar Salman Khan hosted the first 'Shukravaar Ka Vaar' episode from the sixteenth season of the reality television show 'Bigg Boss', he analysed the activities of the housemates and gave them a good lecture.

From Shalin Bhanot to Manya Singh, none were left from his scrutiny. After taking to task Shalin, he asked Miss India runner-up Manya Singh why she undermined other's professions. It all started with Manya praising herself and downplaying Sreejita's work.

During an argument with Sreejita, Manya said: "I was the ambassador of this country. What you are? TV actress? Shaitan (evil)."

Salman said that according to Manya she is above everyone because of her profession as said: "Manya ke hisab se wo angaar hain aur baaki sab bhangaar hain (As per Manya she is a fire and rest all are junk)".

Earlier, Manya was also seen indulging in a fight with Sumbul Touqueer Khan. The former raised questions on Sumbul's relationship with Shalin and called their bond 'fake' and said they are just trying to imitate Shehnaaz Gill and Siddharth Shukla.

Manya said: "Everyone wants to be like Shehnaaz Gill and Sidharth Shukla, but they were real. Their emotions were real. They were ready to even die for each other. Why do these contestants forget that only one person wins the trophy at the end of the day."

Meanwhile, in the upcoming episode, Salman will be seen playing some interesting games with the celebrity guests Neena Gupta and Rashmika Mandanna.

Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Tejas’ to drop in theatres by mid 2023

Mumbai, Oct 8 (IANS) Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film 'Tejas', in which she stars as a fighter pilot, is currently in the midst of tricky sequences. But, the film will be mostly released by mid summer of 2023.

Aircraft dog fights sequences and the VFX are consuming the most of the time. However, the film looks set to release by next mid year. A source close to the development revealed.

"The team is excited to present world class air combat sequences. Director Survesh Mewara is leaving no stone unturned and working day and night to execute the VFX perfectly for the next summer release", the source mentioned.

Wishing everyone on the Indian Air Force Day on Saturday, Kangana too shared greetings for all our air warriors in the story section of her Instagram.

Meanwhile, the actress is busy with the shoot of her next directorial 'Emergency'. The film sees her as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Apart from featuring in the film, Kangana is also directing and producing it under her banner Manikarnika films.

Atlee thanks SRK for choosing to shoot in Chennai

Chennai, Oct 8 (IANS) Director Atlee, who is directing 'Jawan', featuring the Baadshah (King) of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, has thanked the superstar for his decision to have the film's shooting in Chennai.

The move, the director disclosed, has resulted in thousands of families standing to benefit.

Taking to Twitter to respond to Shah Rukh Khan's late night tweet, Atlee wrote: "Thank you sir! It's an honour and a pleasure to have you here sir. Most memorable schedule in my career."

"Special thanks to you for having the shoot happen in Chennai sir, thousands of families were benefitted. 'KING IS A KING ALWAYS' -- a big bow and respect to you sir. Love you sir. See you in Mumbai soon sir."

Late on Friday, Shah Rukh Khan, who has finished his shooting schedule in Chennai, wrote: "What a 30 days blast RCE team! Thalaivar blessed our setsa Saw movie with Nayanthara, Partied with Anirudh, (held) deep discussions with Vijay Sethupathy and Thalapathy Vijay fed me delicious food. Thanks Atlee and Priya for your hospitality. Now, need to learn Chicken 65 recipe!"

Atlee's wife Priya too responded to Shah Rukh's tweet. She wrote: "Thank you so much for the abundant love and care you have for us sir. It's our pleasure always sir. Love you always sir. Recipe is on the way!"

Mani Ratnam has ‘created magic on screen’, says Brindha Gopal for ‘PS 1’

Chennai, Oct 8 (IANS) Dance Choreographer and director Brindha Gopal, who choreographed the songs in director Mani Ratnam's recently released magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan', has lauded her director's work in the film, saying, that he has "created magic on screen".

The ace choreographer, who watched the film only recently as she is in the US, took to Twitter to register her thoughts on the film.

She wrote: "Finally got to see the epic 'PS-1' in the USA. Mani Ratnam sir, you have created magic on screen. Such a mind-blowing experience. Amazing BGM (by) A R Rahman sir."

Congratulating the director of photography, S. Ravi Varman ISC (Indian Society of Cinematographers), she said: "Camera has made each and every frame look like a painting. Kudos to the entire team."

The ace dance choreographer, who is also directing a film called 'Thugs' now, also showered praise on all the actors in the film.

She wrote: "Happy to be part of this film. Chiyaan (Vikram) you have rocked as Aditha Karikalan. Karthi has lived his role as Vandhiyathevan."

Nobody could have portrayed Ponniyin Selvan better than actor Jayam Ravi. Ash has been bewitching as Nandini and Trisha as Kundhavai is beauty and brains personified", she added in her social media post.

The film, which is based on eminent writer Kalki's literary classic 'Ponniyin Selvan', has emerged a huge success and has already grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide in a week's time.

‘Adipurush’ director Om Raut defends Saif’s look as Raavan in his film

Mumbai, Oct 8 (IANS) The controversy around the upcoming Hindu mythological film 'Adipurush', which stars pan-India star Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in leading roles, seems to be gaining further momentum with each passing day.

The film was earlier trolled for its poor VFX that was visible in its teaser. Then the Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra objected to Lord Hanuman being depicted in a 'leather costume'.

More recently, a section of people on the Internet are trolling the film because of Saif Ali Khan's look as Raavan in the film. Now, the director of the film, Om Raut has come out defending the portrayal and his creative choice.

Reacting to the film's heavy trolling over Saif's portrayal of Raavan, the director told Aaj Tak: "Our Ravan in today's time is demonic, he is cruel. The one who has abducted our Goddess Sita is cruel. We have shown what Raavan looks like in today's time. This is not a film or a project for us."

Calling the film "a mission" for the entire production team, Raut further said: "Our film is a symbol of our devotion and we need everyone's blessings for this. Whosoever is speaking about the film are our elders. I am listening to all of them and taking note of everything. When you will watch the film in January 2023, I will not disappoint anyone."

The film, which will see Prabhas as Lord Ram and Kriti essaying the role of Sita, will drop in theatres on January 12, 2023.

Shankar Mahadevan finds ‘Mini Manna Dey’ in ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’ contestant

Mumbai, Oct 8 (IANS) Music directors Shankar Mahadevan and Anu Malik were impressed with the performance of 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs' contestant Atanu Mishra and called him "Mini Manna Dey" on the show.

The 9-year-old contestant, who hails from West Bengal, told the judges that he idolises the late singer and before starting his practice, he worships him.

Atanu stunned the judges and audience with his rendition of the track 'Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen' from the movie 'Waqt'. After listening to his melodious voice, judges Anu Malik and Shankar Mahadevan praised him and said he is a true follower of the late singer Manna Dey.

Shankar said: "We must name him as the 'Mini Manna Dey' of our show today itself."

Anu also added: "It's very exciting to see such an extraordinary talent on the stage of 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs'. We all got emotional as we could literally feel Manna Dey's presence through Atanu's voice."

He called him the true devotee of the legendary singer: "I have understood that you are a true 'bhakt' of Manna Da and the song that you have sung is a 'qawwali' from the time when we were all kids. But the way you sang it, it was just fantastic.

'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs' airs on Zee TV.
