BJP doing negative politics, spreading rumours, says Tejashwi Yadav

“The people of the country are watching them and see how they are spreading rumours and doing negative politics. They are blaming the state government for the death of a BJP leader despite Patna police having clarified everything.

“The person who was roaming with the deceased also gave the statement in public that they were not at the place where Lathi charge happened. They were in Chajju Bagh,” Yadav said.

During investigation, it was also revealed that the BJP leaders were involved in throwing chilli powder on police personnel.

“I want to ask them that how they brought the packets of chilli powder,” Yadav asked.

He said that BJP is an expert in negative politics. “When they are blaming the Bihar government for the Lathi charge, I want to ask them that a large number of farmers died during the agitation. People were killed in large numbers in Manipur. Who would take care of the responsibility of deaths of farmers and murders in Manipur,” Yadav said.

He said that BJP leaders are only leveling allegations but proving them is tough affair.

“They should think before leveling allegations. We have run monsoon sessions for four days. What is the benefit of it? If the opposition debates on issues and point out loopholes, we will answer it,” he said.

With UCC, BJP trying to vitiate atmosphere, divert attention: Owaisi

The Hyderabad MP accused the BJP of seeking to vitiate the communal atmosphere of the country by raking up the UCC.

Addressing a press conference, he termed UCC a political exercise to create an unnecessary environment to divert attention from the real issues.

“Like clockwork, BJP raises the UCC. The goal is to vitiate the atmosphere and reap political dividends,” he said

Owaisi said that the present Law Commission seeking responses on the UCC comes as no surprise. He pointed out that the 22nd Law Commission did not give any proposal, but merely cited the 21st Law Commission’s work.

“This is not a coincidence that exactly after five years again the Law commission is undertaking this exercise. Like a clockwork, five or six months before the general elections BJP raises this issue,” he said.

“The aim is to vitiate the atmosphere and polarise the electorate so that they reap political gains in the coming 2024 elections,” the MP added.

Owaisi said AIMIM has sent its response to the Law Commission along with ex-Supreme Court judge Gopala Gowda’s legal opinion on UCC.

Owaisi observed that the UCC would obliterate diverse customs. He said the tribals in different parts of the country were already opposing the UCC.

He challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come to Adilabad in Telangana and tell the Gond community about the implementation of the UCC.

He also dared the Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to remove the uniform civil laws there. He challenged BJP to inform the tribals of the north eastern states of the UCC exercise.

Owaisi also hit out at Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan over his remarks on the UCC.

“As a Governor, he should not be showering praises on a Government. He should resign as Governor and officially join BJP,” he said.

Khan had stated that the government will keep sensitivities of all in mind.

Delhi HC directs MEA to circulate SOP for repatriating mortal remains of Indians dying abroad

A division bench of Justice Najmi Waziri and Sudhir Kumar Jain was hearing a plea addressing concerns related to the death of an Indian man in the Maldives.

The court said that these guidelines should be made easily accessible to the public.

While the bench urged airlines operating in India to consider hosting the SOP on their websites for the benefit of Indians travelling overseas, it also said that information about a welfare fund set up for the purpose of repatriation should be made readily available.

The court said: “... Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the ‘Guidelines on Indian Community Welfare Fund established in Indian Missions/Posts Abroad’ should be accessible and widely circulated in the public domain.

“Therefore, the MEA is directed to prominently post and make accessible the said SOP and Guidelines on its website, if not already available, within one week from the date of receipt of copy of this order.”

Meanwhile, the counsel representing the Centre informed the court that the SOP for transporting the mortal remains of Indian tourists and workers is already in place.

The court observed that in the case of Indian tourists, the Indian Missions usually coordinate with the deceased person’s family.

In the case of a worker, coordination is established between the nominated family members of the deceased, the insurance company, and the employer, while the Indian Mission closely monitors the entire process.

In exceptional circumstances when resources are limited, the Missions and MEA make suitable arrangements, often utilising the Indian Community Welfare Fund established by the respective Mission.
