Congress meet in Delhi likely to decide Pilot’s new position in Rajasthan

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has joined the meeting virtually from Jaipur.

Sources said that Pilot's rank and file might be elevated post this meeting. It is going to be decided what Sachin Pilot is going to get in the Congress, who had raised his voice against his own government.

CM Gehlot's recent announcement of tabling a bill proposing life term for paper leak accused is also being seen as accepting Pilot's demands, who had sought strict action in the paper leak cases.

Will Pilot, who made rebellion a weapon against the government, be active in state politics or else become a national leader in the Congress is the million-dollar question being discussed here.

After the victory of Congress in Karnataka, the spirits of the party leadership are high. In such a situation, it is believed that the leadership can take a decision without any pressure on Pilot. The questions being discussed are what will be the role of Pilot in Congress? Will he become Chief Minister... Will he become Deputy Chief Minister or will he get some other responsibility.

The politics of the state is mainly dominated by four castes and then the equation of these castes turns the state elections into victory and defeat every five years.

As per social dynamics, Jats are the strongest comprising 9 per cent of the population in the state followed by Meena which is 7 per cent, Rajput has 6 per cent and Gujjar is 5 per cent.

Most of the MLAs come from these castes, and going with their strength these castes have the power to make a candidate or a party win or lose in their respective areas. Sachin Pilot comes from the Gujjar community. He rebelled against party leadership in 2020 but failed in his efforts. The Congress won in Rajasthan in the 2018 elections. It was expected that the party would make him the CM but the party made Ashok Gehlot the CM and Pilot became the Deputy CM. Since then, there has been a rift between the Gehlot and Pilot camp.

After 54 days, Imphal-Dimapur highway, lifeline of Manipur, reopens as blockade lifted

Officials in Imphal said that with the reopening of the NH-2 (via Nagaland), the lifeline of Manipur, the supply of essentials, food grains, transport fuels and life saving drugs would be easier in all the 16 districts of the northeastern state.

After the blockade of the NH-2 since early last month, Manipur was fully dependent on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) through southern Assam in procuring essentials, food grains, transport fuels, life-saving drugs and other materials from other states of the country.

The United People's Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), in a joint statement, said that they decided to lift the blockade of the national highway passing through Kangpokpi district to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities in Manipur.

The development comes, notwithstanding the anger and anguish of the Kuki-Zo community people, keeping in view Union Home Minister Amit Shah's concern to restore peace and harmony in the state and alleviate the plight of people in general.

The joint statement signed by UPF spokesperson Aaron Kipgen and KNO spokesperson Seilen Haokip said that the decision to lift the blockade was taken after wide-ranging consultations with various civil society organisations, village chiefs, youths and women leaders on several occasions.

It highlighted that Manipur has been witnessing ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki Zo communities since May 3 and recurring violence has led to loss of precious lives and destruction of property besides hundreds being injured and thousands being displaced.

The ongoing conflict has disturbed the traditional communal harmony in the state, the statement said, claiming that the Kuki-Zo people have suffered immensely in continued offensives by miscreants and have urged the authorities to protect their lives and properties.

The Kuki Zo organisations had earlier met the Union Home Minister and requested him to provide security in the vulnerable villages in the bordering and foothill areas, the statement said.

Appreciating that central forces have been deployed in most of these areas as assured and the process is in progress, it said: "Once the deployment of central forces is completed in all vulnerable areas, we will ensure that our volunteers are withdrawn from these areas to help restore peace and tranquillity."

It is expected that the concerned authorities will take every measure to maintain peace and ensure supply of essential commodities to the needy, particularly in the hill districts, the statement added.

The statement also appealed to all peace-loving organisations and citizens of Manipur to reciprocate their gesture and take steps towards peace and communal harmony in the state.

Kejriwal blames BJP, Congress for making Chhattisgarh poor

“Chhattisgarh is a state blessed with abundant beauty and resources, including beautiful rivers, forests, and traditional forms of medicine. It is also rich in various types of minerals. With all these resources, it should have been the wealthiest state in India. Unfortunately, it is also the state with the highest poverty rate,” Kejriwal said while addressing a rally at the Jansabha in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

Kejriwal said that if Chhattisgarh gives his party a chance just like in Delhi and Punjab, people in Chhattisgarh too will forget about the BJP and Congress.

He also criticised PM Narendra Modi, calling him an ‘uneducated’ Prime Minister.

Kejriwal pointed out that during an interview, PM Modi himself confessed that he didn’t pursue further studies after leaving his village school.

“PM Modi implemented demonetisation and destroyed the entire economy. An educated Prime Minister would have never taken a step,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal emphasised that he was providing essential services to the people of Delhi free of cost. He accused the Congress-led Chhattisgarh government of not providing basic facilities and free electricity for 20 years.

“PM Modi says Kejriwal distributes ‘Free Ki Revdi,’ but PM has forgotten that his own best friend receives more ‘Free Ki Revdi’ than anyone else. PM Modi is favoring his friends for corporate interests,” he said.

Kejriwal stated that despite the abundant resources and good intentions of the people of the state, bad politicians have cursed its progress. To enable the state to progress, the ruling political party in Chhattisgarh needs to be changed.

“In 2000, the state of Chhattisgarh was created after being separated from Madhya Pradesh. At that time, the residents of the state had high hopes and believed that their state will also see development.

“Chhattisgarh is a state blessed with abundant beauty and resources, including beautiful rivers, forests, and traditional forms of medicine. The state is also rich in various types of minerals, and coal and steel are produced here. The Gods have blessed the state and given it everything, except probably just one thing – honest politicians. This is one thing that, unfortunately, this state does not have,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal mentioned that the residents of Chhattisgarh, whom he interacted with, were completely surprised when they found out that the people of Delhi receive a zero electricity bill.

He further added that the governments in Chhattisgarh could have done it as well, but they were busy looting the people to fill their own coffers.

Kejriwal stated that the people had been forced to go through adversity by the PM just so that he could provide free loans to his “businessmen friends.”

Kejriwal mentioned that the Prime Minister of the country was only assisting his “businessmen friends” without getting anything in return.

“In the last 10 years, the BJP-led Centre has made a mess of our country. They made ghastly decisions such as implementing demonetisation. Their rationale behind it was to end corruption. I want to ask the people gathered here – has corruption ended after demonetisation? They even claimed that it would put an end to terrorism, but no such thing has happened. If we had an educated leader running the country, he would certainly not make such poor policy decisions,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal urged the citizens of Chhattisgarh to give AAP an opportunity in the state.

“The way the people of Delhi did not vote for BJP and Congress, the way the citizens of Punjab did not vote for BJP, Congress, and the Akali Dal, similarly, I urge the people of Chhattisgarh to give AAP a chance,” he said.

WhatsApp bans over 65 lakh bad accounts in India

Between May 1 and May 31, 6,508,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned and 2,420,700 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users in the country.

In the month of April, WhatsApp, which has more than 500 million users in India, had banned a record over 74 lakh bad accounts.

The most popular messaging platform also received 3,912 grievance reports like "ban appeals" in May in the country, and the records "actioned" were 297.

“Accounts Actioned" denotes reports where WhatsApp took remedial action based on the report and taking action denotes either banning an account or a previously banned account being restored as a result.

"This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp's own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform," according to the company.

In a bid to empower millions of Indian social media users, the Centre recently launched the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) that will look into their concerns regarding content and other issues.

The newly-formed panel, a move to strengthen the country's digital laws to tame the Big Tech companies, will look into appeals by users against decisions of social media platforms.

In a major push towards an open, safe, trusted and accountable Internet, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has notified some amendments aimed at protecting the rights of 'Digital Nagriks’.
