Patna: A boat carrying 21 passengers capsized in the Ganga river in Bihar, leaving two people missing, officials said.
The incident occurred in the middle of the river when the boat reportedly lost control and overturned. Nineteen passengers were rescued with the help of local residents, fishermen and eyewitnesses and brought safely to the riverbank.
Two passengers are feared to have been swept away by the strong current. Following the incident, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation in the river to trace the missing persons.
Preliminary information suggests that the boat may have been carrying more passengers than its permitted capacity. Authorities are also examining whether the strong water current and loss of control contributed to the accident.
