Jaipur, Aug 31 (IANS) Two of the Alwar’s four Mandal presidents have resigned along with their respective executive committees over the distribution of tickets for the upcoming municipal corporation councillor elections in Rajasthan. The resignations have been submitted to BJP District President Ashok Gupta.
The two Mandals collectively cover 33 of Alwar’s 65 wards, with Shri Vivekananda Mandal covering 17 wards and Shri Keshav Mandal covering 16. Attempts were made to contact District President Ashok Gupta for a response, but he did not answer the call.
Eventually, 15 members of the Shri Vivekananda Mandal executive committee, including Mandal President Jitendra Singh Rathore, have resigned.
Rathore said he had sought a BJP ticket for his wife, Hukam Kanwar, from Ward 25. However, the party reportedly gave the ticket to Ramakant Yadav, who had previously contested an election from another ward.
Rathore also raised questions over the candidate selection, stating that although Ward 25 is reserved for a woman from the general category, the ticket was awarded to an OBC candidate.
Similarly, eight office-bearers of the Shri Keshav Mandal executive committee, including Mandal President Mahesh Nihalani, have submitted their resignations to the District President. The office-bearers alleged that ticket distribution was not carried out in accordance with the party’s stated procedure.
According to them, party meetings had indicated that candidates would be finalised after consultations with Mandal presidents and their executive committees, but they claimed this process was not followed.
Meanwhile, several BJP leaders were reportedly engaged in efforts to persuade the resigned office-bearers to reconsider their decision late into the night.
Senior BJP leader Suresh Mehta, who is considered close to Minister of State for Forests Sanjay Sharma, has also voiced his displeasure on social media.
In a post, Mehta remarked that the party apparently no longer needs experienced and veteran leaders, suggesting that they should sit at home while “selfish individuals and sycophants” take their place. The post is being viewed in the context of the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
However, Mehta did not explicitly mention the reason for his dissatisfaction.
Vijendra Gurjar, District General Secretary of the BJP OBC Morcha, has also submitted his resignation from both his organisational post and primary membership of the party to the District President.
In his resignation letter, Gurjar cited growing discontent among party workers over the organisation’s current functioning and what he described as the continued neglect of dedicated grassroots workers who have served the party for years.
He said there was no justification for continuing in an organisational position when the dignity and views of loyal workers could not be protected within the party.
