Kolkata/Bhopal, April 18 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday intensified his attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while campaigning in West Bengal, saying the BJP is crucial to end “jungle raj” and bring development to the state.
“The BJP is essential for the progress of West Bengal and to end the prevailing ‘jungle raj’,” Yadav said, alleging that under Mamata Banerjee-led TMC rule, the state has witnessed lawlessness and stalled growth. He added that people are now looking for change and a stable government.
Yadav held roadshows and door-to-door outreach in Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas district and Kharagpur Sadar in Paschim Medinipur district. He addressed public meetings in support of BJP candidates Arup Chowdhury and Dilip Ghosh, urging voters to ensure their victory with a strong mandate.
Targeting the TMC government, he claimed that development has slowed and issues such as poverty and unemployment persist. He alleged that many people are forced to migrate due to a lack of opportunities, and that basic infrastructure has not improved in several areas.
“The people of Bengal want freedom from misrule. They are ready to move towards development and good governance,” he said, adding that welfare schemes would be implemented more effectively if the BJP comes to power.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Yadav said West Bengal can benefit from a “double engine” government, where both the Centre and the state work in coordination for faster development.
He also raised the issue of infiltration, calling for strict measures to curb illegal entry and ensure proper identification of citizens. He termed it a major challenge affecting the state’s security and governance.
During the campaign, Yadav interacted with local residents and assured them that a BJP government would focus on employment generation, infrastructure development, and better delivery of welfare schemes.
Expressing confidence, he said the BJP is set to perform strongly in the elections. “People of Bengal will bring change and write a new chapter of development,” he added.
The West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4, according to the Election Commission.
