Kolkata, Aug 6 (IANS) A woman from Bihar on Thursday gave birth to one of her twin babies in a moving cab and the other after reaching a hospital in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Thanks to the timely efforts of doctors, both the mother and the two newborn babies are healthy.
Hospital sources said the 29-year-old woman from Darbhanga had come to a relative’s house in Salt Lake in July. On Thursday morning, she went into labour. Her family members quickly called a cab to take her to the hospital. Before reaching the hospital, she delivered a baby girl in the moving vehicle.
She was rushed to the emergency department of a Salt Lake hospital, where doctors examined the baby born in the cab and shifted her to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) after primary treatment.
Meanwhile, the woman delivered her second baby, a boy, under medical supervision in the hospital’s emergency department. He too was admitted to the NICU for observation and special care.
Hospital staff said the mother and both babies were kept safe with the combined efforts of doctors, nurses and emergency department personnel. Hospital doctor Paramita Kanjilal Chakraborty said, “After bringing the patient to the hospital, the emergency department doctors and health workers started treatment quickly. One baby was already born in the cab, while the other was born safely in the hospital. Due to timely treatment and quick decisions, the mother and both babies are now healthy.”
Doctors said no major complications arose in either case due to quick medical services and timely decisions. Family members expressed relief over the well-being of the mother and the two newborns.
