Patna, April 8 (IANS) The Gopalganj Police have intensified their crackdown on land mafias, with an arrest of a prominent mafia triggering political ripples due to the alleged links of the accused with a prominent political family of Bihar.
Acting under the directives of Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari, district police conducted a targeted raid near Banjari Morh under the Nagar Police Station area, arresting alleged land mafia figure Gang Dayal Yadav.
Three other suspects were also detained during the operation and are currently being interrogated.
Police sources indicate that the accused had been active for a considerable period in land grabbing and dispute-related activities.
Gang Dayal Yadav has faced multiple serious allegations in the past and has previously served time in jail.
The police said that Gang Dayal Yadav is considered a land grabber in the region. As per the modus operandi, he used to purchase disputed lands in cheap prices and capture them.
Investigators are now probing the wider network, including other associates allegedly involved in illegal encroachment and land-related conflicts.
Gopalganj police on Wednesday produced Yadav in the district court, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
The case has taken a political turn, with reports suggesting that Gang Dayal Yadav is closely associated with a prominent political party in Bihar.
However, officials have clarified that no formal confirmation of such relationships has been established so far.
The action was initiated following complaints from local residents, and it has brought a sense of relief to people in the area.
SP Vinay Tiwari stated that strict surveillance is being maintained on cases of illegal encroachment and land disputes.
He emphasised that no accused will be spared and that the campaign against land mafias will continue with full force.
Police have indicated that further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses, with ongoing interrogation aimed at uncovering the entire network.
The development is being closely watched, as the investigation may lead to further revelations, especially given the alleged political connections.
