Bihar: Patna resident alleges Rs 1.19 cr cyber fraud in trading scam

Patna, Aug 22 (IANS) A Patna resident has reported an alleged cyber fraud involving more than Rs 1.19 crore, claiming he was lured into making large investments through online trading platforms with promises of substantial returns.

The complainant, Abdul Ejaz Azhar Jameel, a resident of Jagdev Path, Patna, approached the Cyber Cell to register an FIR, investigate the alleged fraud, and take immediate steps to recover the money. The online complaint carries acknowledgement number 3050826010xxx.

According to the complaint, Jameel came across advertisements and references on Facebook concerning Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India) Pvt. Ltd. and Finsol Securities Ltd. Individuals subsequently contacted him through WhatsApp and allegedly persuaded him to download trading applications, including ‘JB X One’, to make investments.

He said he was initially permitted to withdraw a small portion of his investment, which increased his confidence in the platform. Following this, he invested a substantially larger amount.

According to the complaint, Rs 79,56,451 was transferred to various bank accounts allegedly associated with Julius Baer, while another Rs 39,96,593 was transferred to accounts allegedly linked to Finsol. The total amount transferred was reported as Rs 1,19,53,044.

The victim alleged that the trading application subsequently displayed substantial profits. However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, he was allegedly told he first had to pay 20 per cent of the purported profit. This raised suspicions that he had been targeted in a cyber fraud.

Jameel provided investigators with mobile numbers of several individuals who allegedly contacted him, including people identified as Kunal and Sonal, who claimed to represent Julius Baer, and Gul and Ananya, who allegedly claimed to be associated with Finsol.

He requested the Cyber Cell to investigate the alleged beneficiaries by examining their KYC records, bank transactions, IP addresses and other relevant digital evidence. He also sought immediate freezing of any available funds in the beneficiary accounts and appropriate steps to trace and recover the allegedly defrauded amount.

The allegations are subject to police investigation and verification.
