Bihar land dispute: Man killed in front of his son in Rohtas

Patna, April 1 (IANS) Rising land disputes in Bihar are increasingly turning violent, raising serious concerns over social harmony and law and order.

In a tragic incident from Rohtas district, a family dispute over land partition led to the murder of a man, allegedly at the hands of his own nephew.

The incident occurred in Panduri village, under the jurisdiction of the Nasriganj police station, on Wednesday, when a long-standing dispute over land division escalated into violence.

The deceased has been identified as Baijnath Singh. The incident has left the local community in shock and panic.

According to police, Baijnath Singh was on his way to a nearby crossroads with his son to have paan when a group of individuals arrived in a black car.

Soon after stepping out, the accused opened fire at him indiscriminately.

During the attack, Baijnath Singh sustained critical injuries—in full view of his son.

Locals immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.

An FIR has been registered against five named individuals.

The prime accused, Ranjit Marwar, along with his associate, Gopal Rai, is currently absconding.

Police teams are conducting continuous raids to apprehend the accused.

The body has been sent to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.

SDPO Bikramganj, Sindhu Shekhar, stated that the incident stemmed from a prolonged dispute over land partition within the family. According to preliminary findings, the deceased’s sister and her son—the accused nephew—had been demanding a share in the property, leading to ongoing tensions over several years.

“A murder has occurred over a land dispute. A named FIR has been registered against five individuals. The prime accused is absconding, and raids are being conducted to ensure arrests,” the SDPO said.
