PM Modi, HM Amit Shah wish Union Minister Giriraj Singh on birthday

New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended birthday wishes to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, praising his initiatives to strengthen the sector and empower weavers and artisans.

“Best wishes to Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh Ji on his birthday. He is undertaking several initiatives aimed at strengthening the textiles sector, which is so closely linked with Indian heritage and is vital to fulfilling our vision of self-reliance. Praying for his long and healthy life,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings to Singh and lauded his efforts to promote the textile industry and make weavers and artisans self-reliant.

“Heartfelt birthday wishes to Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh ji. Under the leadership of Modi ji, you are doing commendable work in promoting the textile industry and making weavers and artisans self-reliant. I pray to God for your healthy and long life,” he said.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal also wished Singh on his birthday, highlighting his contribution to the development of the textile and handloom sectors.

“Heartfelt birthday wishes to my colleague in the Union Cabinet, Giriraj Singh ji. Your continuous efforts towards the development of the textile and handloom sector and the empowerment of our weavers and artisans are commendable. I pray to God for your good health and long life,” he said.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also conveyed his greetings to Singh.

“Heartfelt birthday wishes to the Honorable Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh ji. I pray to God for your excellent health and long life,” Rijiju said.

Born on September 8, 1952, in Barahiya town of Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, Singh graduated from Magadh University in 1971. He served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council from 2002 to May 2014.

Singh served as Bihar’s Cooperative Minister from 2005 to 2010 and Animal Husbandry Minister from 2010 to 2013. He later entered the Lok Sabha from Nawada in the 2014 general election.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Singh won from Begusarai, defeating CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar. He subsequently served as Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries.

Following the July 2021 Cabinet reshuffle, Singh was appointed Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Panchayati Raj.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Singh retained the Begusarai seat for a second consecutive term, defeating Awadhesh Kumar Rai by 81,480 votes. He took charge as Union Minister of Textiles on June 11, 2024.
