Son presumed dead by family in Punjab, found lodged in prison

Kapurthala (Punjab), Sep 6 (IANS) In a shocking incident reported from Punjab’s Kapurthala, a young boy, believed to be dead by his family, was later found to have been lodged in a prison.

The family of the youth, identified as Ravi Kumar, realised that he was alive after receiving a phone call from a jail, nearly 15 days after they had cremated a body that they believed was of their missing son, NDTV reported.

The unexpected call revealed that the boy, presumed to be dead by his family, was actually alive and lodged in prison.

According to preliminary information, Ravi Kumar had left home on August 5 and did not return. His father and brother said they searched for him on their own but could not find any trace of him.

After failing in their efforts to gather any information about the youngster, the family approached Kapurthala City Police Station on August 11 and filed a missing person’s report.

Meanwhile, police informed the family that a burnt body of a young man had been found. The family was shown photographs of the deceased man. A few days later, family members and other relatives identified the body as that of their missing son, Ravi Kumar.

Presuming that he had died, the family conducted the youth’s cremation on August 13.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, the family received a phone call from an employee of Central Jail in Kapurthala on September 2. They were informed that a man named Ravi Kumar was lodged in the jail.

Notably, Ravi Kumar had been arrested by Jalandhar Police about a month earlier in a loitering-related case and was lodged in the Central Jail.

The information left the family shocked and confused.

However, the next day, they were overjoyed to find Ravi Kumar alive during their visit to the prison.
