New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ) President Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi on Wednesday referred to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav as a “BJP agent” and called him out for “mocking” the ruling alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
The Muslim cleric was responding to a post on X by SP chief Yadav, where the latter alleged that the BJP is working on a plan to allocate seats to its allied parties, “in the prospect of defeat” in the upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Taking to X, Akhilesh Yadav said: “Facing the prospect of defeat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in response to the pressure from the ‘PDA’ coalition, is working on a plan—based on advice from certain election experts—to allocate seats to its allied parties, in order to prevent them from scattering in different directions.”
Further, Yadav went on to give details of the purported seat sharing of the ruling alliance, mentioning: “RLD-73 seats, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party-39 seats, Nishad Party- 31 seats and Apna Dal-19 seats.”
Moreover, he said that the seat distribution is “less than half” in proportion to the PDA’s population, “which is why this plan is bound to fail miserably”.
Speaking to IANS, Maulana Shahabuddin said: “Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav is making a mockery of the BJP alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement; he allocated tickets for Anupriya Patel, Jayant Chaudhary, and OP Rajbhar as if he were the chairman of the BJP alliance himself.”
“He (Yadav) went on to allocate seats for everyone else in the same manner. I have consistently maintained that Akhilesh Yadav finalises his agenda with the BJP in the darkness of night, only to say something else in the morning,” he remarked.
Referring to the recently concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Muslim cleric said: “People should see that he (Yadav) didn’t say anything regarding the welfare of students at the Parliament. He only spoke on the Ram Temple donation theft.”
He alleged that earlier, while speaking on the then Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, “Akhilesh Yadav had spoken on the topic only for the first 2.5 minutes; the rest of the time was spent on unnecessary talks”.
Further, Maulana Shahabuddin called the SP chief a “BJP’s agent”.
Responding to questions over raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at locations linked to jailed former MP Azam Khan, he said it is the job of the ED to do so.
“The ED has raided all his locations—offices, homes, shops, properties, and institutes. The government agency must have received specific inputs or discovered irregularities in documents, bank transactions, or audit records; that is why the ED has raided Azam Khan,” he said.
The cleric stated that the ED raids should not be viewed from a Hindu-Muslim perspective, adding: “This is a legal action and should be seen from that point of view only.”
“The ED raids the houses of Hindus as well, including corporates, so it should not be seen from that point,” he stressed.
