Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has rejected BJP allegations that the proposed Karnataka Government Premises and Public Property Use Control Bill, 2026, targets the RSS.
Kharge questioned the basis of the BJP’s claim, pointing out that the RSS is not mentioned in the proposed legislation. “Has the BJP read the bill? Let them tell us what their objections are. Let the bill be tabled and discussed,” he said.
The proposed law seeks to regulate unauthorised use of government land, buildings, roads, parks, playgrounds and water bodies. A first offence could attract up to three years’ imprisonment or a ₹5 lakh fine, while repeat offences may invite up to five years’ imprisonment and a ₹10 lakh fine.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said organisations using public property must obtain permission.
BJP leaders R. Ashok, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Araga Gyanendra and V. Sunil Kumar have alleged that the bill targets the RSS and vowed to oppose it.
