Navi Mumbai, Aug 11 (IANS) In a shocking case, a man allegedly murdered his mother by strangling her and repeatedly smashing her head against the floor in Juhu Village, Vashi, in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai.
Mahesh Ratnakar Kadam (42), a resident of Ashtavinayak Society in Sector-11, allegedly brutally murdered his 65-year-old mother, Manda Ratnakar Kadam.
The gruesome incident took place on the evening of August 9, leaving residents of the locality shocked and disturbed.
Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chandekar said the accused harboured deep resentment towards his mother because she did not allow his wife to live with them.
Mahesh reportedly believed that his mother devoted most of her attention and care to the family of his sister, Rupali Devlekar. Driven by this family dispute and anger, he strangled his mother with a piece of cloth and slammed her head against the floor, causing her death on the spot.
Following the incident, a case was registered at Vashi Police Station based on a complaint filed by the victim’s son-in-law, Mangesh Kashinath Devlekar, a resident of Mankhurd. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused, Mahesh Kadam. The court has remanded him to police custody until August 13, and further investigation is underway.
According to police, Mahesh allegedly remained at the scene after committing the crime and began screaming. Neighbours who heard the commotion rushed to the residence and informed the police. A team from Vashi Police Station reached the spot and took custody of Manda Kadam’s body.
“Based on the information received, we reached the spot and subsequently arrested the accused. A case has been registered against him under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” said Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chandekar.
In a similar incident reported earlier on July 29, a 60-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her son after she refused to give him money for liquor in south Delhi’s Maidangarhi area.
The accused, identified as Amod Pandit, was arrested. Family members alleged that he repeatedly attacked his mother with a spade after initially assaulting her with his fists and feet.
The deceased woman’s daughter-in-law, Ganita Devi, had said that she was informed about the incident by a relative, following which she rushed to the house.
