New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) Amid the heavy sloganeering from the Opposition benches in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told the House that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will make a statement about the students’ protest and called upon the Opposition not to “run away” during the discussion.
The issue relates to the police action against the protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on July 20 over the NEET paper leak and other examination-related irregularities. The Opposition has been demanding the Home Minister’s answer over the police “brutality” against the students during the protest.
The Monsoon Session entered its last week on Monday. However, the Opposition continued its protest over the NEET paper leak issue and the police action against the protestors on July 20.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, after the proceedings were resumed, Rijiju said, “Congress and Rahul Gandhi were demanding that Home Minister Amit Shah should give a statement. The government is ready to discuss the students’ issue and the Home Minister is ready to give a detailed reply. “
“I urge the Opposition that during the Home Minister’s address, don’t be afraid and run away,” he added.
However, the din did not fade even after Jagdambika Pal, who was in the Chair, urged the Opposition MPs to maintain the decorum of the House.
The Opposition MPs, while raising slogans, also started flashing the placards during the proceedings. The Chair advised against doing so, citing the Parliamentary traditions.
Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal rose to speak about the Tribunal Reforms Bill amid the sloganeering of Opposition MPs. The Tribunal Reforms Bill, 2026, was subsequently passed amid the Opposition ruckus.
“When the Home Minister is ready to answer, you are not ready for the discussion. When the Parliamentary Affairs Minister has assured you, then why are you creating this chaos? This means that you only come here to flash placards,” Pal said, referring to the Opposition benches.
He urged the Opposition MPs to maintain the decorum of the House and take part in the discussion. The House was subsequently adjourned for the day.
