Kolkata, June 11 (IANS) Moments after four-time Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee’s vociferous outburst against Abhishek Banerjee over ‘arrogance and misbehaviour’, the former’s son, Sirsanya Bandopadhyay, came down heavily on the TMC general secretary for his “overbearing” attitude.
Sharing his first reaction with IANS on withdrawing from the case about Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Kalyan Banerjee’s son said, “We are not Abhishek Banerjee’s employees, to whom he will dictate what to do and what not to do.”
Sirsanya Bandopadhyay said that his father was sincerely handling the court case against Abhishek Banerjee in the legislators’ signature mismatch matter, but he decided to pull out because of Abhishek’s interference and high-handedness. Pinning the blame on the Trinamool MP, Bandopadhyay said that it was because of Abhishek Banerjee’s lack of faith and trust that the matter came to such a pass.
Bandopadhyay said that his father and legal team were working arduously to seek relief for Abhishek Banerjee, but the matter was getting postponed to a later date due to pendency of cases in the court.
It was Wednesday night that they were informed by Abhishek Banerjee’s team that their services were not required as another lawyer was appointed to represent him in the Calcutta High Court, which Bandopadhyay said was ‘humiliating and demeaning’ for them.
“The problem with Abhishek is that he cannot trust anyone. He was trying to create a second line-up of lawyers. This is not the way it is done,” he remarked.
When questioned by the scribes as to whether this meant ‘betraying’ the party, he said that the Trinamool is much bigger than Abhishek Banerjee as it encompasses the voice of lakhs of workers and supporters.
“When the tall and big leaders have disappeared or jumped ship, it’s we who are trying to help any party worker or leader under distress or seeking legal assistance,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee’s top aide Kalyan Banerjee, in a sort of ultimatum to the party supremo, said that she will have to make a choice between “arrogant” Abhishek Banerjee and him, as he couldn’t tolerate the latter’s “haughtiness” any longer.
Commenting on his father’s ‘plain-speaking’, Bandopadhyay said that the veteran Trinamool leader and four-time MP has stood behind Mamata Banerjee like a rock not just in good times but also when many trusted supporters have deserted her.
