Education key to nation-building in AI era: Delhi L-G T.S. Sandhu

New Delhi, May 14 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) T.S. Sandhu said on Thursday that education remains the strongest foundation for nation-building in this era of rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence and technology.

Addressing the graduating students at the Convocation of B.R. Ambedkar University, L-G Sandhu encouraged the youth to move beyond college degrees and embrace continuous learning, innovation, and leadership.

“For the graduating students, present here today, this occasion is therefore, not merely the conclusion of your academic journey. It is the beginning of a larger responsibility. The knowledge and values you have acquired here must ultimately contribute, to society, and to the nation, in meaningful ways,” he said.

“I would also urge you to remain deeply connected to the society around you. Education acquires its true meaning, when it uplifts, not only individual lives, but also the communities, and institutions around us,” the L-G added.

“Whether you choose careers, in public policy, academia, law, media, entrepreneurship, social work, or the arts; carry with you, a strong sense of integrity, empathy, and public purpose,” he said.

L-G Sandhu said that Delhi itself, stands as a powerful reminder, of this shared responsibility.

This city represents both history and aspiration, the L-G added.

“It is shaped by diversity, strength, and ambition. Its future will depend, significantly, on the contributions of young people, like you — individuals capable of combining, professional excellence with social awareness, and national commitment,” he said.

Urging students to contribute meaningfully toward building a future-ready city, the L-G added, “It is heartening to see the University emerge as a preferred institution through Common University Entrance Test (CUET), rooted in the values of inclusion, academic excellence, and critical thinking.”

In a message on social media platform X, L-G Sandhu said, “I encouraged the graduates to move beyond college degrees and embrace continuous learning, innovation, and leadership. As they step into the professional world, I urged them to uphold the values of integrity and public purpose and contribute meaningfully toward building a future-ready #ViksitDilli and #ViksitBharat.”
