Ujjain, May 6 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conducted a surprise inspection of a wheat procurement centre in Ujjain on Tuesday and warned officials that negligence in the process would not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister visited the Agro Steel Silo centre at Manpura village, under Datana and Surjanwasa Service Cooperative Societies, to review the ongoing procurement arrangements. He inspected weighing systems, storage facilities, payment procedures, and basic amenities provided to farmers.
Interacting with farmers at the centre, Yadav asked about their experience and the facilities available. Farmers raised issues related to weighing, availability of gunny bags, transportation, and payments. Taking note, he directed officials to resolve these concerns quickly and ensure a smooth process.
“There should be no negligence in procurement. Farmers must not face any inconvenience,” Yadav said. He added that ensuring transparency in weighing and timely payments to farmers is the government’s priority.
The Chief Minister also said that the procurement deadline could be extended if needed, so that all farmers are able to sell their produce.
He reiterated that the government is continuously procuring wheat, gram, and masoor across the state.
Yadav reviewed the arrangements made for farmers, including drinking water and shaded seating areas at the centre. He also mentioned that control rooms have been set up in districts to monitor the procurement process.
During the visit, the Chief Minister climbed onto a tractor-trolley to check the quality of wheat brought by farmers and interacted with them directly.
Assuring support, he said the government and administration stand with farmers and will ensure that payments are transferred to their bank accounts within the stipulated time.
A farmer, Altaf Patel from Datana Matana village, said he has received timely payments and that prices are favourable. He added that government initiatives have helped improve farmers’ income.
