Delhi Police busts MDMA supply module, arrests two

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Friday busted an organised MDMA (Ecstasy) supply module operating in South Delhi, arresting two accused and seizing a commercial quantity of narcotics.

According to officials, a total of 19.15 grams of MDMA, including 29 Ecstasy pills and MDMA crystals, was recovered during the operation. The accused were apprehended before they could evade arrest, exposing a clandestine network that used cabs and concealed packaging to distribute drugs.

As part of its nationwide anti-drug campaign, the Central Range of the Crime Branch has been taking stringent action against narcotics offenders. Acting on credible intelligence, a raiding team comprising SI Dinesh Kumar and Head Constables Ashwani, Pankaj, Harender, Gaurav, Ankur, and Karamjeet was constituted. The operation was led by Inspector Vinay Kumar under the direct supervision of ACP, Central Range, Satendra Mohan and overall supervision of senior officers.

On the intervening night of April 12–13, the team conducted a raid in the Hargovind Enclave area of Chhattarpur. During the operation, a taxi was intercepted, and the accused, Deepak Kumar, 37, a resident of Govindpuri, Kalkaji, was apprehended.

Upon search, police recovered 25 Ecstasy pills along with MDMA in crystal form weighing 14.95 grams from his possession, which falls under the category of commercial quantity, indicating organised drug trafficking.

During sustained interrogation and technical analysis, Deepak disclosed that he was working as a carrier for a supplier. Acting swiftly on this information, the police team identified and apprehended the supplier, Md. Farhan alias Sunny, 33, a resident of Pariyavaran Complex, Saket, before he could escape.

Officials revealed that both accused operated in a highly clandestine manner, frequently changing mobile handsets, SIM cards, and locations, making their identification and tracking challenging.

Police investigations revealed that Farhan was the main conspirator who ran a delivery-based drug distribution network. He used his car as a cab during the day to avoid suspicion and utilised the same vehicle for drug distribution at night.

Farhan allegedly deployed cab drivers as carriers for doorstep delivery of narcotics. The contraband was concealed in Maggi packets to evade detection. He maintained contacts within party circuits and supplied drugs to select clients while frequently changing communication channels.

It also emerged that he was procuring MDMA from an African national, who has been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

During a follow-up search at Farhan’s rented premises in Saket, an additional 4.2 grams of MDMA were recovered, taking the total seizure to 19.15 grams.

Police also seized the vehicle used in transportation and mobile phones used for coordination.

A case (FIR No. 83/26 dated April 13) under Sections 22, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Crime Branch police station. Further investigation is underway to trace the source, financial trail, and the wider network. More arrests and recoveries are likely.

Deepak Kumar reportedly joined the drug trade due to financial constraints and worked as a carrier responsible for transportation and last-mile delivery. He was previously involved in a robbery case registered at the Kalkaji police station.

Farhan alias Sunny initially worked as a driver but later entered the narcotics trade due to high profit margins. He developed links within party circles and with foreign nationals to run an organised supply network. No prior criminal record has been found against him.
