Mumbai, June 9 (IANS) The makers of “Batwara 1947” have shared a glimpse of the upcoming movie as they have unveiled the first motion poster featuring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Shabna Azmi. The maiden glimpse offers a haunting peek into the pain, fear and courage associated with the partition of India.
Sunny on Tuesday morning shared a visual of chaos, displacement and survival on Instagram. The motion poster begins with a “burning paper” visual motif at the center is Sunny, who is shown running amid chaos. Behind him are images of people caught in violence and unrest.
The motion poster then moves to Sunny standing at the forefront holding a flaming torch. He appears to be protecting his family, who can be seen standing behind him, including Preity. The background showcases a conflict-ridden setting.
Sunny captioned the poster: “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026.”
The details around the film are still underwraps. The film was earlier titled “Lahore 1947”. As per reports, the teaser is all set to drop on June 15.
The film marks Sunny Deol’s reunion with Rajkumar Santoshi after films such as ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini’.
The narrative is reportedly adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai’, which examines Partition not through large-scale politics, but through intimate human relationships fractured by communal violence and displacement.
The story reportedly centres on a Hindu family forced to migrate from Lahore to India, who are allotted a haveli vacated by a Muslim family, only to discover an elderly Muslim woman still living inside.
The actor was last seen in Border 2 directed by Anurag Singh. A sequel to J. P. Dutta’s 1997 film Border, the film was set in India–Pakistan war of 1971.
“Border 2” features the operations of the Indian Armed Forces. It also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty. Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana and Anya Singh.
